RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — A skydiving accident on Long Island has killed one man and seriously injured another.

Riverhead police say Gary Messina died in the accident Wednesday at Skydive Long Island in Calverton.

A New York City Department of Correction spokesman says the 25-year-old was a correction officer.

The 28-year-old instructor, Christopher Scott, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Skydive Long Island says it owns million-dollar aircraft and a 23,000-square-foot hangar on 16.3 acres. It says it offers the highest jumps on Long Island at 13,500 feet.

A message left with the skydiving company hasn’t been returned.

Police provided no other information.
