RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Eleven humanities projects in Virginia have received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The National Endowment for the Humanities announced the grants Monday. The Virginia projects total nearly $2 million in funding.

The largest grant of more than $324,000 will fund a project at Old Dominion University to help researchers with archiving websites and navigating archived collections.

The Library of Virginia is getting more than $323,000 to digitize 100,000 pages of Virginia newspapers dating from 1836 to 1922.

The University of Mary Washington also will prepare papers of James Monroe with a grant of $290,000.

Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia, George Mason University, the College of William and Mary and the George C. Marshall Research Foundation also received grants.
