WASHINGTON — A Frederick, Maryland, teenager is behind bars after allegedly bringing a gun to school.

Students from Oakdale High School saw videos on social media of the boy, 17, with a gun and told a teacher, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Administrators and the school resource officer pulled the boy from class on Wednesday, searched his belongings and found a loaded handgun, the sheriff’s office said.

The student lives near Fort Detrick. Charges against him include reckless endangerment and having a dangerous weapon on school property.

The statement from the sheriff’s office said the boy is charged as an adult, although court records show one of the charges against him is possession of a firearm by a minor.

The sheriff’s office said it doesn’t appear the teenager had made any specific plans or threats regarding the weapon.

The boy will be in court Thursday afternoon.
