Jones with 23, Chattanooga beats Wofford 56-46

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Casey Jones scored 23 points to help Chattanooga knock off Southern League leader Wofford, 56-46 on Thursday night.

Chattanooga (17-9, 10-3 Southern Conference) has won eight of its last nine games and pulled within a game of Wofford (20-6, 11-2), which snapped a seven-game winning streak.

Jones added eight rebounds and shot 10 of 14 from the field, finishing one point shy of his career best. Duke Ethridge had nine points and 12 rebounds, and Greg Pryor chipped in nine points with three steals.

The Mocs opened the second half on a 7-0 surge to stretch their lead to 26-18, and led the rest of the way. Wofford pulled within 44-41 with 3:38 left but did not get closer.

Karl Cochran scored 13 points and Justin Gordon 12 to lead for Wofford.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — After dominating the Big Ten for three straight years, the Maryland women's basketball team is ready to take on the world. Maryland was selected by the United States International University Sports Federation to represent the U.S. in Taiwan at the World University Games.
