Brownlees 1st, 3rd in Hamburg triathlon

HAMBURG, Germany (AP) — Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee won his first world series triathlon of the year with a late sprint to head off Vincent Luis of France by two seconds on Saturday.

Alistair’s brother, Jonathan, was third, five seconds back.

The British brothers were slow out of the 750-meter swim, but caught the leaders on the cycle stage, and led off on the five-kilometer run with Luis, and series leader Javier Gomez of Spain.

Gomez was first to fall away — he finished fourth — and Alistair made his move with 600 meters to go, although Luis came back for his second world series medal, and first since 2012.
