ATLANTA (AP) — A judge has decided that an upcoming trial in Atlanta’s school cheating case will go on as scheduled in August without former school superintendent Beverly Hall, who is battling cancer.
Hall’s oncologist, Dr. Laura Weakland, said in a sworn statement that Hall can’t endure a trial because of side effects from chemotherapy and progression of cancer.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://on-ajc.com/1qQODbr) that Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter said in court Friday that he can’t delay the trial, set to begin Aug. 11.
The Atlanta newspaper reports that Hall’s charges remain, and she would face a separate trial if her health improves.
Hall is among more than 30 Atlanta Public Schools educators accused in a conspiracy to cheat on standardized tests. Some have pleaded guilty. Others are awaiting trial.
