Thunderstorm causes damage, injures 10 in VB

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Beach Fire Department says a severe thunderstorm injured 10 people near the oceanfront in Virginia Beach.

Batallion Chief Amy Valdez says the storm came through Thursday afternoon and caused extensive damage throughout the city near the coast. Valdez says multiple homes were damaged, power poles were knocked down and a church had its steeple knocked down. She says windows at some oceanfront hotels and businesses were also blown out.

The storm also caused street flooding in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, making some roads impassable.
