Girl, 3, struck by car and killed in DC

WASHINGTON (AP) — D.C. police say a 3-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car in southeast Washington.

The accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. on July Fourth, on a residential block of Alabama Avenue. Police say 3-year-old Samiya Holmes entered the roadway and was hit by a car.

Samiya was taken to a hospital, where she died. The driver remained on the scene.

The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
