Tampa Bay’s Maddon ejected against Tigers

DETROIT (AP) — Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon has been ejected from Friday night’s game against Detroit after disputing the umpires’ response to a hit batsman in the sixth inning.

Detroit’s Ian Kinsler was hit leading off the bottom of the sixth by Rays right-hander Alex Cobb, and plate umpire Quinn Wolcott warned both benches. Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria had been hit by Drew Smyly in the top of the inning, and Victor Martinez of the Tigers was hit in the fourth by Cobb.

Maddon took a few steps out of the dugout, and second base umpire Greg Gibson seemed to motion to Maddon to stay back. Maddon continued arguing from a distance, and after being tossed, Maddon approached Gibson and kept arguing.

It was Maddon’s third ejection of the year.
