Fireman upgraded after stadium lightning strike

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A central Ohio firefighter who went into cardiac arrest when lightning struck outside a soccer stadium has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.

Authorities believe the off-duty firefighter was struck Saturday while attending a charity event at Crew Stadium before an MLS game.

A spokeswoman for the Columbus Division of Fire says the condition status of Lt. Stu Tudor was upgraded Wednesday.

The president of the local firefighters union told The Columbus Dispatch earlier that Tudor was put in a medically induced coma while the 54-year-old firefighter’s injuries were assessed.

Saturday’s game between the Crew and FC Dallas was postponed to Sunday after the lightning strike.
