VRE making accommodations for holiday rush

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Virginia Railway Express says it’s making plans to accommodate riders leaving early for the holiday weekend.

The rail service says it expects the biggest loads of passengers on trains departing Washington’s Union Station between 3:35 p.m. and 4:25 p.m. Thursday.

VRE says that as a result, its longest trains will be the Fredericksburg line train departing Union Station at 3:35 p.m. and the Manassas line trains departing at 3:45 p.m. and 4:25 p.m.

VRE says that in addition, the Fredericksburg train departing at 12:55 p.m. will have seven cars rather than the normal four and the Manassas train departing at 1:15 p.m. will also have seven open cars.

VRE is only running special trains for the fireworks, not a normal schedule, on Friday.
