Kvitova advances to Wimbledon semis

LONDON (AP) — Former champion Petra Kvitova has defeated fellow Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-1, 7-5 to reach the semifinals at Wimbledon.

The sixth-seeded Kvitova, who won in 2011 at the All England Club, is the only Grand Slam champion left in the women’s draw after Maria Sharapova lost to Angelique Kerber in the fourth round on Tuesday.

Kvitova hit 29 winners compared to Zahlavova Strycova’s 5.

Kvitova’s win set up an all-Czech semifinal against Lucie Safarova.
