PHELPS, N.Y. (AP) — Severe thunderstorms are being blamed for the deaths of two people killed by a falling tree in New York, flooded roads in northeast Ohio and downed power lines in Indiana and Pennsylvania.

Police say a tree fell across a road in the rural town of Phelps around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday as a line of powerful storms rolled across western New York. Officials say the tree landed on a car, killing a man and woman from out of state.

In Ohio, high water from two days of heavy rains left some roads flooded, causing headaches for motorists early Wednesday.

A stretch of Route 228 north of Pittsburgh is closed due to downed utility poles.

Severe weather, including a tornado, caused damage to vehicles and homes across Indiana on Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.
