1 dead in fatal hit and run wreck in Fairfax

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — A woman who pulled over to the shoulder of a Fairfax County highway to get something from her trunk was struck and killed in a fatal hit and run.

Virginia State Police say the accident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. on Saturday. Police say the woman was driving a Toyota Solara and traveling westbound on Interstate-66 when she pulled over. When she got out of the car another car hit and killed her. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Yesenia Esmeralda Funes.

Police say the suspect vehicle is a charcoal gray or black sedan that is missing its passenger-side mirror and has damage to its passenger side wheel well. They are seeking the public’s help in finding and identifying the car and its driver.

A Virginia pet expo running through Sunday is hoping to help those who recently got new pets to find what they need. Eric Udler, producer of the Super Pet Expo at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, said that there has been a significant increase in pets being adopted with so many people working from home.
