Pickup truck driver flees scene after hitting pedestrian

WASHINGTON — A pedestrian died after being struck by a pickup truck early Saturday morning in Prince George’s County, officials said.

Officials were called to the intersection of St. Barnabas Road and Wheeler Road in Maryland around 3:05 a.m., where they found an unresponsive woman in the roadway.

Police pronounced the victim dead on the scene. The pickup truck had left the site of the crash.

The woman had been a passenger in a car that had been rear-ended by another car, NBC Washington reported. She was struck by the passing pickup truck after she got out of the car, investigators said.

Police had not released the name of the victim Saturday morning.
