1M Americans have wrapped up their holiday shopping

WASHINGTON — There are 87 shopping days left until Christmas, or almost a quarter of a year. But some Americans claim they are already done with their holiday shopping.

A lot of them.

A CreditCards.com survey reports about 1 million Americans claim they already have finished their shopping. Another 34 million adults in the United States reported they already have begun holiday shopping.

“Most Americans are annoyed by these overachievers,” said CreditCards.com senior analyst Matt Shultz. “The majority thinks stores should begin putting up their holiday displays and advertising holiday sales around Thanksgiving.”

The survey finds that 74 percent agreed with this statement: “It’s annoying that the holiday shopping season has gotten earlier.” That includes 48 percent who strongly agreed.

Online shopping gains ground each holiday, but it still doesn’t dominate.

Fifty-eight percent of those surveyed reported they still like to do the bulk of their holiday shopping in stores. Twenty-one percent favored computers and 11 percent preferred mobile devices.
