Man shot, killed in Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON — D.C. detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred near the intersection of Fuller Street and Mozart Place in Northwest.

At about 2:23 a.m. Saturday, police officers from the city’s Third District station responded to a call for a shooting near that intersection. Upon arrival, they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound along the 1600 block of Columbia Road in Northwest.

D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services took the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man was then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner; an autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of death.

The man has been identified as Luis E. Avila Melendez, 27, of Northwest.

Those with information should call (202) 727-9099 or text 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department offers up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the robbery.
