PenFed adds another credit union

WASHINGTON — PenFed Credit Union is big, and it keeps getting bigger. Its latest merger is with High Plains Federal Credit Union in Clovis, New Mexico.

It adds more than 6,000 members to PenFed.

Curry County, New Mexico, is home to more than 10,000 active duty personnel and military family members at Cannon Air Force Base. Civilian workers at the base, military retirees and veterans account for another 13,000 residents of the county.

Earlier this year, PenFed merged its credit union operations with Belvoir Federal Credit Union, in Woodbridge, Virginia, gaining 26,000 new members.

It has combined operations with several credit unions recently, including Fort Gordon and Community Credit Union and NAVFAC Federal Credit Union.

Alexandria-based PenFed is one of the largest credit unions in the country, with 1.4 million members and $20 billion in assets.
