Bear stuck in tree at NIH

MCFRS units and wildlife officials are on the scene of a black bear in a tree near the Medical Center Metro station.

The bear, about 100 feet high in a tree has attracted a large crowd and its own personal NIH Police security detail near the station’s Kiss and Ride lot.

Paul Peditto, a spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, said personnel will try to use non-lethal means to get the bear out of the tree and chase back toward the NIH campus.

Maryland DNR are setting up a barrier to keep the bear from running to Rockville Pike. The bear, Peditto said, is about as high as he can go.
