Police make arrest in Howard Co. apartment murder case

WASHINGTON — Police arrested a man on Wednesday for his role in a murder in a Howard County apartment earlier this week.

Howard County police found 62-year-old Martin Edward Mullineaux dead in his apartment in the 8700 block of Hayshed Lane in Columbia, Maryland, during a welfare check. Mullineaux had not been seen in two days.

Around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, police arrested one of Mullineaux’s acquaintance who police said became a person of interest in the case. Police said they aren’t releasing the identity of the suspect until charges are filed. The man was arrested in the 500 block of N. Crain Highway in Glen Burnie.

Police said it appears Mullineaux died “as a result of traumatic injuries,” and said in a Wednesday news release that there were no signs of forced entry at his residence. Police have not released any additional details about his injuries.

Mullineaux was the only person listed on the apartment’s lease, according to police.

The cause and time of death will be confirmed in an autopsy.

Police are investigating the case, and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 410-313-STOP.
