VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell still owes more than $10 million to the lawyers who ultimately got his federal corruption conviction overturned.

His sister Maureen McDonnell told reporters Friday that he’s still in debt to two law firms in Washington, D.C., saying “the bills have accumulated.”

Supporters created a legal defense fund in 2013 for McDonnell and have raised more than $575,000. Donors include Washington Redskins’ part owner Dwight Schar and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

A jury convicted McDonnell and his wife in 2014 with accepting luxury gifts and loans from a vitamin executive. The U.S Supreme Court ruled in June that McDonnell didn’t necessarily violate bribery laws.

Prosecutors announced this week that they wouldn’t seek a second trial.
