WASHINGTON — Prince William County leaders paid tribute Friday to those who perished in the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon, 22 of whom lived in the county.
It was a somber day at Woodbridge’s Liberty Memorial erected ten years ago to remember all 125 Pentagon victims.
“The Prince William County area lost the most people of any region in the (D.C.) metro area from these attacks. So today we take time to remember and honor those who we lost,” said County Chairman Corey Stewart.
He stood among family and friends of the fallen, government workers and residents at the memorial that pays tribute in its design to the victims of New York City, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
At the memorial, the American flag flies at half-staff on a flagpole taken from the front yard of Pentagon victim James Lynch’s Prince William County home.
