PORTO SEGURO, Brazil (AP) — Germany relished its crushing 4-0 victory over Portugal and celebrated hat-trick scorer Thomas Mueller, but there was a new injury worry for coach Joachim Loew.
Central defender Mats Hummels, who was the other scorer against Portugal, is unlikely to play in Saturday’s Group G match against Ghana in Fortaleza because of heavily bruised right thigh. Another defender, Jerome Boateng, is expected to play with a special brace for his injured right thumb.
But the injuries failed to dampen the buoyant mood in the German camp on Tuesday, with Loew enjoying a walk on the sprawling sandy beach next to his team’s base on the Atlantic coast.
After a light practice session in the morning, Loew gave the team time off to spend with their families.
