BALTIMORE (AP) — The attorney general’s office says Maryland has reached a settlement with the developer of the mobile app Snapchat in which the company agreed not to deceive consumers about “disappearing’ messages.

Attorney General Doug Gansler said in a news release Thursday that Snapchat also agreed to get consumers’ consent to collect and save contact information from electronic address books.

Snapchat is a popular mobile messaging app that lets people send photos, videos and messages that disappear in a few seconds. But Gansler says recipients of snaps can capture or copy them for later viewing and distribution.

The settlement also requires Snapchat to make a $100,000 payment to the State.

Gansler says Snapchat does not accept any liability in the settlement.
