MUKUNO, Uganda (AP) — Photos show polling in Uganda’s election as President Yoweri Museveni seeks a seventh term, facing a strong challenge from the musician-turned-politician best known as Bobi Wine. Some polling stations remained closed for up to four hours after the scheduled 7 a.m. start time on Thursday due to “technical challenges,” according to the nation’s electoral commission.

Asian shares mostly fall and US futures are little changed after US inflation data improves

BANGKOK (AP) — Shares mostly declined Friday in Asia and U.S. futures were little changed after U.S. inflation data showed a better-than-expected improvement in July. Oil prices were holding steady after slipping in recent days. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index gained 0.3% to 68,533.85, while the Kospi in South Korea rose 1.3%, to 6,924.74. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng lost 1% to 25,137.87. The Shanghai Composite index was 0.5% lower at 3,908.05.
