NUUK, Greenland (AP) — Greenland, the self-governing territory of Denmark and part of NATO, sits off the northeastern coast of Canada, with more than two-thirds of its territory lying within the Arctic Circle.

Leaders from several European countries have reaffirmed that Greenland “belongs to its people” after the Trump administration doubled down on its intention to take over the strategic Arctic island.

Asian shares mostly fall and US futures are little changed after US inflation data improves

BANGKOK (AP) — Shares mostly declined Friday in Asia and U.S. futures were little changed after U.S. inflation data showed a better-than-expected improvement in July. Oil prices were holding steady after slipping in recent days. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index gained 0.3% to 68,533.85, while the Kospi in South Korea rose 1.3%, to 6,924.74. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng lost 1% to 25,137.87. The Shanghai Composite index was 0.5% lower at 3,908.05.
