French Open: Defending champion Alcaraz faces No. 1 Sinner for the men’s title

PARIS (AP) — Jannik Sinner faces defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final on Sunday in a match pitting the world’s top two men’s players.

They share seven major titles, four for Alcaraz and three for Sinner, who is in the French Open final for the first time.

The top-ranked Sinner has not dropped a set at Roland-Garros, while the No. 2-ranked Alcaraz has dropped four sets.

Sinner is on a 20-match winning streak in Grand Slam tournaments, after winning the U.S. Open and the Australian Open.

The 22-year-old Alcaraz owns a tour-leading 21-1 record on clay this year and has beaten the 23-year-old Sinner in their past four meetings.

He leads him 7-4 overall. ___

Ohtani says knee felt good after recent bullpen session, powers Dodgers with 2 homers in 11-5 win

DENVER (AP) — Maybe just as encouraging for the Los Angeles Dodgers as their bats finally waking up Monday night was the status report on Shohei Ohtani's knee following his most recent bullpen session. “Felt good the next day,” Ohtani said through an interpreter after the Dodgers' 11-5 win over the Colorado Rockies. Ohtani is slated for another bullpen session on Tuesday. He hasn't pitched in a game since July 3 due to irritation in his left knee, but he may be trending in the right direction. “That’s the hope, and that’s the reason why we’ve been pretty careful in the rehab process,” said Ohtani, who's 8-2 on the mound this season with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings. "That’s the ideal outcome — to make sure that I come back as soon as possible.”
