Woman crossing road in Prince George’s Co. fatally struck in hit-and-run

Maryland police are looking for the driver who struck and killed an unidentified woman in the Landover area Tuesday night.

The collision happened around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and Bell Haven Drive, according to a news release from the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Police believe the victim in this crash, an adult female, was struck while attempting to cross the road. First responders said she was declared dead at the scene. The driver fled, and police said they are looking for a four-door gray or silver vehicle with front-end damage.

Loudoun Co. sheriff says despite vote against it, push for SROs in elementary schools will continue

Loudoun County’s Board of Supervisors voted to remove funding to expand the school resource officer program into elementary schools from next year’s budget, a step the sheriff who oversees the initiative called “short-sighted.” During a work session on the fiscal 2027 proposed budget, supervisors voted Monday night to withdraw the proposal from the spending plan. In its initial phase, Sheriff Mike Chapman said at least 15 SROs would be added to elementary schools, with the goal of having them on all 62 campuses within four years.
