Free dog adoptions at DC’s Humane Rescue Alliance to celebrate Valentine’s Day

Are you looking for a sweet pup to call your Valentine?

It’s the perfect time to pick up a new best friend at the Humane Rescue Alliance in D.C., which is offering free adoptions and extended adoption hours on Wednesday.

You can pick up a rescue dog from noon to 9 p.m. at both of HRA’s adoption center locations, at 71 Oglethorpe Street Northwest and 1201 New York Avenue Northeast.

Fees, which are usually $150 to $250, are completely waived for the holiday to help pets find forever homes.

DC United’s groundskeeper brings ‘the turf world’ to Audi Field

On a hot summer day in D.C., Blaise Restifo casually strolled around Audi Field, the region's premier soccer stadium, looking at its grass pitch before starting to set up the goal nets. As he worked together with his field team, Restifo picked up multiple TurfPods, which helps track the soil’s temperature and moisture, and turned on the sprinklers. Moments later, players from the U.S. women’s national soccer team started warming up for an afternoon training. While they ran sprints, Restifo monitors how the field responds to the wear and tear from their cleats.
