Woman killed in hit-and-run on Md. Route 214 near Capital Beltway

Listen to WTOP Traffic on the 8s for the latest. A woman is dead following a hit-and-run in Prince George’s County on Maryland Route 214 Monday morning, police say. Seat Pleasant Police responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian eastbound on the off ramp to Central Avenue from Interstate 495 at 3:20 a.m. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene, and the driver involved did not remain on the scene, police told WTOP. Central Avenue westbound was closed at the Capital Beltway for a couple hours but police announced it had reopened around 7:00 a.m.

How the Ethiopian community is celebrating Orthodox Easter in the DC area

This weekend, Orthodox Christians, including many from the Ethiopian community in the D.C. area, are celebrating Fasika, or Easter, marking the end of the 55-day fast called Abiy Tsome, or the Great Lent. Ethiopians, along with Eritrean, Greek, Russian and Serbian cultures celebrate the holiday in line with the Julian calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar, which celebrated Easter at the end of March.
