Two men in their 60s were killed Sunday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Loudoun County, Virginia, involving a motorcycle, an SUV and a pickup truck carrying a trailer with horses inside.

The horses were not injured, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.

The crash happened about 3 p.m. Sunday in James Monroe Highway at Tail Race Road in Aldie when the driver of the motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the truck hauling the horses, the sheriff’s office said. That caused the truck to lose control and strike the SUV.

The driver of the motorcycle and the driver of the SUV both died at the scene of the crash. The motorcyclist was identified as 61-year-old Thomas A. Miller, of Charles Town, West Virginia, and the driver of the SUV was identified as 68-year-old Pedro J. Sera-Levya, of Leesburg.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

In addition to the sheriff’s deputies, troopers with Virginia State Police and the Loudoun County Animal Services also assisted at the scene.
