The Hunt: ISIS fighters bribe their way out of prison

Months ago, when devastating earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria, another major development took place. A number of ISIS fighters were able to bribe their way, using U.S. dollars, out of prisons in the region.

On this week’s episode of “The Hunt with WTOP national security correspondent JJ Green”, Dr. Hans-Jakob Schindler, senior director of the Counter Extremism Project, says the money they used to escape likely came from a fund, via a refugee camp, left over from the now-defunct ISIS caliphate.

Terrorists, both foreign and domestic, as well as violence and international election interference will be top threats to the U.S. in the coming year, according to a report from the Department of Homeland Security. During the unveiling of a new approach to articulate the terrorism threat level to U.S. officials and the public, a DHS official told reporters that “challenges facing our homeland are more diverse and complex than at any time in our department's 20-year history.”
