Suspect in Alexandria shooting mistakenly released from jail

A man arrested in connection with a shooting in Alexandria, Virginia, was mistakenly released from a Maryland jail on Friday.

Brian Wordell Morris Jr., 27, was taken into custody Friday by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and Alexandria police — but was mistakenly released from a jail in Prince George’s County later that day.

Alexandria police revealed the mistake in a news release Monday.

Police didn’t say where Morris was taken into custody.



Morris, a city resident, is accused of shooting a 22-year-old man on Jan. 15 in the 4600 block of Duke Street. The victim in that shooting was taken to the hospital but police said he’s expected to be recover.

Alexandria toddler dead after falling from apartment window

Officials in Alexandria, Virginia, are investigating the death of a toddler who fell from a high-rise apartment building on Wednesday afternoon. The Alexandria Police Department said that the 3-year-old boy died of his injuries after tumbling from an upper-floor window of an apartment complex on Yoakum Parkway.
