Police: Man fatally stabs 68-year-old stepfather in McLean

A man is dead after being fatally stabbed by his stepson Tuesday night, police in Fairfax County, Virginia, said.

Adam Timothy Jackson Jr., 39, has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 68-year-old Alan Miller Kaufmann, according to a news release.

Jackson is being held without bond at the Fairfax County jail.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Colonial Road in McLean, just east of the McLean Central Park, shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday for the report of a stabbing.

Jackson’s mother call 911 to report that her son had stabbed both her and her husband, police said.

When officers arrived, they said Jackson came out of the house and was arrested. Inside, officers found Kaufmann suffering from trauma to his upper body. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jackson’s mother was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy in the coming days.

Police haven’t yet described a motive. Detectives are conducting interviews and gathering surveillance video and other evidence to determine the series of events led up to the fatal stabbing, police said.
