Police in Prince William County, Virginia, say they have arrested the man suspected of sexually assaulting a girl after offering to give her a ride in the rain Thursday.
Sender Juventino Linares Rivera, 35, of Manassas, has been charged with aggravated sexual battery, abduction, carnal knowledge of a child, attempted rape and attempted strangulation, police said in an update Friday. He is being held without bond.
Police said they identified Linares Rivera thanks to a photo the 13-year-old girl snapped of the distinctive maroon truck with snowplow that the man was driving. Detectives found the truck in the Manassas Park commuter lot and were then able to track down the driver, who they identified as Linares Rivera. Police said the Linares Rivera is not the owner of the truck.
Police said officers got a call Thursday from the girl who said an unknown man had taken her bike. When officers started speaking with the girl, she said the man had sexually assaulted her as well.
The girl, who police originally identified as being 12 years old, was riding her bicycle, during Thursday morning’s cold rain, in the area of Hoadly Road and Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge, according to a news release.
Police say she said that when she stopped to catch her breath, a man in a two-toned pickup truck, with a snowplow in the front and a large salt spreading device in the bed of the truck, offered her a ride.
After accepting the offer, the man placed her bike in the bed of the truck and drove away. Minutes later, police said he sexually assaulted the girl in a parking lot.
According to police, the girl got out of the truck and the man drove away, with her bike still in the bed of the pickup — but not before the girl snapped a photo of the vehicle.
Police said the girl was not physically injured.
The girl’s bicycle was described as a teal-colored Huffy mountain-style bike.
