Teen killed in Kettering crash

Police in Prince George’s County, Maryland, say a teenage girl was killed in a fatal car accident at the intersection of Kettering Drive and Kettering Place Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded to the crash just before 6 p.m. and found five people inside the car.



A female passenger, 17-year-old Janiya Thompson of Upper Marlboro, was taken to the hospital, where she died. The driver and the remaining three passengers were also hospitalized with injuries. 

Police say its preliminary investigation showed that the car was driving westbound on Kettering Drive when it left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Thompson’s family set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral and burial costs.

Bowie looks to boost its police department by around 25%

With thousands of new homes being constructed within city limits, Bowie’s police department is also looking to grow. They’re hoping to boost the number of officers in the department by about 25% — to 75 total — by the end of the year.
