Missing 3-year-old Fairfax County girl found

A missing 3-year-old girl from Fairfax County, Virginia, has been found unharmed.

An Amber Alert has been issued Tuesday evening forĀ Amelia (Mimi) Kraus, who was taken from her home in the Fort Hunt area just before 4:30 p.m. by Catherine Kraus, 35.

At the time, it was believed Amelia Kraus was in “extreme danger” after last being seen on Tauxemont Road in Alexandria.

Fairfax County Police told WTOP Amelia Kraus was taken by her mother, Catherine Kraus. Maryland State Police said that Catherine Kraus is the child’s non-custodial mother. Catherine Kraus also has a felony abduction warrant .

Virginia State Police confirmed the girl was found just before 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Police did not say Catherine Kraus was also found and arrested.

A new system in Fairfax County, Virginia, lets people create profiles detailing special needs or situations firefighters might encounter in an emergency. "If you have somebody in your home who is visually impaired or hard of hearing, or perhaps bedridden or mobility-limited, you can put that into the app," said John Morrison, data analytics strategy manager for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
