The man who police said had a knife when Metro Transit Police shot him at the Anacostia Metro Station in D.C. has been identified.
Metro Transit Police responded to a fight involving a stabbing at the station at 8:40 p.m. Thursday.
Sherri Ly, a Metro spokeswoman, said a man who had a knife stabbed another person and then lunged at the responding officer, who then shot the suspect.
Darryl Jones, 48, of District Heights, Maryland, faces charges of assault with intent to kill while armed and assault on a police officer while armed.
Jones and the person who was stabbed were taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Both are in “stable condition,” Metro Transit Police said.
The Metro Transit Police officer who shot Jones is on administrative leave. D.C. police will handle the shooting investigation. Metro plans to investigate the stabbing incident.
Train service between Congress Heights and Navy Yard was suspended for over two hours as investigators examined the scene. Normal service at Navy Yard station resumed at 12:30 a.m.
Ly said most Metro riders who left the National first game of the season were not affected because they were traveling north on the Green Line.
