All lanes reopened on I-95 south after overturned tractor-trailer stalled traffic near Stafford

Traffic on southbound Interstate 95 is resuming it’s normal pace after authorities cleared the wreckage from a tractor-trailer that overturned and caught fire near Stafford, Virginia, around midmorning Wednesday.

The incident had caused all lanes to close, then one lane to be briefly reopened, before all lanes were closed again to address the wreckage. Virginia Department of Transportation officials said drivers may experience residual delays as traffic flow adjusts. Virginia State Police reported that the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. near mile marker 135. The eighteen-wheeler ran off the right side of the roadway and collided with a guard rail, according to police. The driver was seriously injured as a result of the crash. VDOT officials say that the traffic backup extended six miles. VDOT crews were detouring drivers to Exit 136/Centreport Parkway so they could access U.S. 1 and then reenter I-95 by using Route 17.
