Hybla Valley shooting kills 1, injures another

Fairfax County police said a man has died and another was injured in a pair of shootings Saturday evening in Virginia.

Police told WTOP they’ve taken a man into custody following two shootings in the Hybla Valley area that allegedly started with a fight at a bus stop.

Jordan Eugene Cochran, 20, of Alexandria, has been charged with second-degree murder, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, malicious wounding and robbery, police said.

The first shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. at a bus stop at Richmond Highway and Dart Drive.

Officers arrived to find Kebbren Isaiah Leigh-Gaye, 18, of Alexandria, suffering a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

According to police, Cochran fled the shooting and approached a driver in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven at 3100 Lockheed Boulevard. He asked the driver for a ride and shot him in the eye when he was turned down.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police found Cochran in the parking lot of a nearby Taco Bell at 7230 Richmond Highway and arrested him. Officers said they found a handgun. They also discovered items belonging to Leigh-Gaye.

The shootings remain under investigation.

Police said Cochran and Leigh-Gaye knew each other.
