1 dead, 1 injured in Fairfax Co. crash

A person is dead after a serious two-car crash on Fairfax County Parkway in Virginia.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes.



One driver was pronounced dead at the scene while another was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In Fairfax Station, all southbound lanes of the Fairfax County Parkway were blocked between Burke Centre Parkway and Va. 123 for just over three hours.

NVR founder Dwight Schar, longtime DC business leader, to retire

Dwight Schar, founder of Reston, Virginia-based homebuilder and mortgage lender NVR, will retire following the company’s annual shareholder meeting May 5, stepping down as chairman of the board, a position he has held since 1993. Schar, 80, joined Ryan Homes in 1968. He left Ryan Homes to start NVHomes in 1980, and NVHomes subsequently acquired Ryan Homes to form NVR. He served as CEO through June 2005, building NVR into the third-largest homebuilder in the country.
