‘Suspicious vehicle’ near Tidal Basin found to contain airsoft guns

Authorities are investigated a suspicious vehicle near the Tidal Basin in Southwest D.C. and two people were detained when a truck with visible airsoft guns parked in the swan boat rental parking lot, according to police.

U.S. Park Police and D.C. police responded to the scene around 3 p.m. when a U-Haul was reported on the 1500 block of Maine Avenue near the swan boat parking lot with visible weapons inside it.

An investigation found that the U-Haul had no live explosives and the “weapons” turned out to be airsoft rifles and pistols.

The two people detained at the scene cooperated with the police investigation and were released shortly after.
