The Maryland Department of Commerce has opened three new international trade offices in Europe as the state looks to grow its global reach.

The new offices are located in Manchester, England; Paris; and Heidelberg, Germany, but will also cover “several additional European countries.” The trio of new offices will replace a central European trade office that the department has operated for several years, according to a Tuesday release. The decision to establish individual offices was not influenced by the Brexit transition last year, said Karen Glenn Hood, a spokeswoman for the Department of Commerce.

“For many years, we had a central European office and since, in recent years, we have established some stronger partnerships with these countries, we felt it would be more efficient and give us better penetration into these markets if we had actual offices in these countries run by a local representative that knows the business climate,” she wrote in an email.
