Northbound lanes on Interstate 95 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia were closed for over seven hours after a truck carrying “enormous rolls of paper” caught fire. Around 4:36 p.m. Monday, Virginia State Police responded to the tractor-trailer that caught fire. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

All northbound traffic on I-95 was detoured at Exit 118 in Thornburg to Route 1 northbound before the site of the crash near mile marker 125. Crews tried to extinguish the fire on the shoulder. The remaining parts of the fire were the rolls of paper. There were placed into dumpsters in order to extinguish the final remains of the fire. Virginia Department of Transportation said once debris is clear, sand trucks absorb the final fluids that remained from the fire before lanes were reopen.

Two northbound lanes opened before 11 a.m., with all northbound lanes reopening before midnight.
