Southwest adds daily flights from BWI to another Florida beach

Southwest Airlines has added an 11th Florida airport to its portfolio, this time with direct flights to and from Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

The carrier announced Thursday that it will begin daily nonstop service between Destin-Ft. Walton Beach Airport and BWI starting May 6. The new route marks the third airport that Southwest will serve on Florida’s panhandle.

Travelers will be able to fly nonstop between the airport and BWI as well as Dallas Love Field Airport, Nashville International Airport and, starting June 6, Chicago Midway International Airport. Additional connecting or same-plane service to Destin-Ft. Walton will also be available to more than 50 cities.

Tickets to the Florida beach are currently available for purchase, with one-way fares to or from BWI starting at $79.

Destin-Ft. Walton is the sixth new Southwest destination recently announced or started for BWI as the carrier focuses on leisure destinations as business travel remains slow to recover.

Familiar face returns to SAIC as its new cyber chief

Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) has tapped a new executive to oversee its cybersecurity strategy and response efforts, selecting Kevin Brown as its chief information security officer, according to a statement from the company issued Thursday. The new role will make for a second tour at SAIC for Brown. He was Boston Scientific Corp.’s CISO for the past six years, but previously spent 17 years with the Reston technology integrator, ultimately becoming senior vice president and operations manager for information security business before leaving in 2011.
