Woman dead in Falls Church hit-and-run

A woman is dead after a hit-and-run crash in Fall Church, Virginia.

Fairfax County police said officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian in the 7200 block of westbound U.S. Route 29/Lee Highway, just before 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The woman was found lying in the roadway, police said, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was identified as 81-year-old Raymunda Garcia-Hernandez, of Falls Church, police said.

Investigators believe Garcia-Hernandez was crossing Lee Highway when she was hit by an unknown driver. Police said she did not use a crosswalk.

The driver did not stop and has not been found so far. No description of the suspect’s vehicle was immediately available.

Police said this was the year’s first pedestrian fatality in the county.

The WTOP Traffic Center reports all westbound lanes of U.S. 29 reopened around 11 p.m. following a crash reconstruction.

Anyone with information about this crash can call the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit at (703) 280-0543.
