“The Kojo Nnamdi Show,” the long-running local news program on public radio station WAMU 88.5, will go off the air in 2021 as its host largely retires, Kojo Nnamdi announced Wednesday. The last show will air April 1.

Nnamdi will continue to host “The Politics Hour” on Fridays with journalist Tom Sherwood, according to an email sent to WAMU listeners. He will also continue the “Kojo in your Community” event series at various locations around the District, he said.

“I’ve loved connecting with you each day on the issues that you care about and learning more about this region we all call home,” Nnamdi said. “But I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and connecting with the D.C. area off-air.”

“The Kojo Nnamdi Show” has run on WAMU’s air for 23 years. Originally a two-hour program, it went down to one hour in 2015 when the station stopped distributing the second, less-hyper-local hour to other stations around the country.
