Tropical Storm Delta remains to deliver rain to DC region

Remnants of the tropical storm that was once Hurricane Delta are forecast to bring 1 to 2.5 inches of rain to the D.C. area on Sunday and Monday.

Before Delta hit the Gulf Coast on Friday as a Category 2 hurricane, it was predicted to deliver anywhere up to 3 inches of rain to parts of the D.C. region this weekend.

The tropical storm has slowly moved up from the Southeastern part of the United States Saturday, brining heavy rainstorms, flash flooding and tornado warnings in parts of Georgia.

After a cloudy Saturday, according to StormTeam 4 Meteorologist Somara Theodore, rainfall is expected for the metropolitan region throughout the day on Sunday after Delta moves through the Tennessee Valley.

Nighttime rain is expected to continue into Monday. The storm should clear out by late Tuesday, leaving clear conditions for the rest of the week, Theodore said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Next storm expected to hit southern parts of region through the evening

After a surge of moisture brought some morning snow and rain to the D.C. area, there's a bit of a lull before the next weather-maker moves into the region Thursday evening, mainly over the southern suburbs, which will see some light snow and sleet. The second storm could bring the potential of snow Thursday night through Friday morning.
