1 dead, 1 injured in shooting at DC-Maryland border

Police are investigating a shooting Thursday night near the D.C.-Maryland border.

D.C. police said officers responded to the 5200 block of Western Avenue Northwest just before 8 p.m. for the report of a shooting. They found a man — later identified as Tavon Brown, 20, of Baltimore — unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

A second man was found in Montgomery County, Maryland; he was conscious and breathing, and was also taken to the hospital. Police said he had a gunshot wound that wasn’t life-threatening.
