Clyde’s Restaurant Group will close its two venues in Columbia, Maryland in July — one of them, Clyde’s of Columbia, after 45 years in business.

The venerable restaurant on Lake Kittamaqundi’s waterfront announced Wednesday that its last day in service will be July 18. The Soundry, a neighboring concert venue from the company that opened in 2018, will also close for good.

“It breaks our heart to be closing — but after several years of struggling sales, the pandemic, and the challenges music venues are now facing as a result, 2020 has dealt us a blow we simply cannot overcome,” John McDonnell, the chief operating officer of Clyde’s Restaurant Group, said in a statement.

Clyde’s of Columbia opened on the lakefront in 1975 and has become a favorite gathering spot for first dates, family celebrations and business meetings in the decades since.
